Welcome !

Welcome to our website! Troop 521 meets every Tuesday from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Cool Spring Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

We are a large and very active troop with a variety of activities and scheduled monthly outings.  We attribute our success to our active adult leadership, "boy-run troop" philosophy with focus on advancement, merit badges and high adventure activities which keeps our scouts very interested and involved.

Please contact our Scoutmaster if you would like to join or find out more about us

Order of the Arrow Conclave at Brady Saunders - April 24/26

Posted on Apr 6 2026 - 1:31am

Yearly the OA Lodges around the State of Virginia hold a Conclave (gathering) bringing approximately a thousand arrow-men together for training, competitions, food and fun. This year the conclave will be at Camp T. Brady Saunders. This event is open to all OA members in the Nawakwa Lodge.   Registration is open at www.OAe9.org (Click on Nawakwa Lodge).

The Lodge needs staff and delegates as we are the host Lodge. There is lots for us to do!

We are holding work days (needing many volunteers) on April 11 and April 18. All are invited to come out and volunteer. Those helping will earn a special pocket flap representing our Conclave theme "Down on the Farm".

If you have questions, please talk to Jack C or most any adult leader. You can find a lot of info at the web site above.

April Adventure - 4/24 - 4/26 Caving at Grand Caverns, Grottoes, Viginia

Posted on Apr 6 2026 - 1:19am

Our planned adventure for April is a caving experience at Grand Caverns in Grottoes, Va. We will be camping on the grounds of the caverns at a pavilion, not in an established campground.

This cave experience is NOT the paved walkway, handrails and lighting most of us have experienced.  No, we will be truly spelunking, going in a wild cave where we have to brave the mud, water etc of the cave system. All specialized gear is provided by the caverns. We will have a professional guide to be sure we don't loose our way.. Any of the obstacles that seem too difficult for any of the scouts will have a "get around". In this way all can participate.

More details will be discussed at the Troop meeting this Tuesday including cost, etc.

Summer Camp at T. Brady Saunders

Posted on Apr 6 2026 - 1:06am

We currently have 30 Scouts and 7 adults signed up for Summer Camp.

There have been a few additional Scouts and adults who have said that they would like to attend! going. We need to get those registrations in quickly.

We are already at the limits for our campsite based on the tents that are set up - so we are going to have to set up some of our own tents!

We got almost all of the Merit Badge classes that our Scouts wanted! Several of the classes - Archery, Fishing, Metalwork and Welding - filled up overnight!

Talk to Mick Rost if you are still considering attending Summer Camp!

Your membership will not be complete – and you are not permitted to attend Scouting activities – unless you are fully trained! Visit my.scouting.org today to complete the new SYT course and your required Hazardous Weather Training.

Camping this weekend - March 13 / 15

Posted on Mar 9 2026 - 1:03am

This weekend will be a primitive camp and bike ride along the newly built Fall Line trail. The property is about 10 minutes from Cool Spring Baptist and makes for a good close in camp.

The bike ride is optional. The trail is a paved roadway compatible with any size and style bike.Currently the open part of the trail is about 7 miles long. When complete, the trail will be 45 miles long and run from Ashland to Petersburg. Those that do not want to ride will have activities around camp to keep them busy. We will be discussing how the Troop can help transport bikes to the camp site.

The cost for this weekend is $15 which is your food money only.
