Welcome !

Welcome to our website! Troop 521 meets every Tuesday from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Cool Spring Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

We are a large and very active troop with a variety of activities and scheduled monthly outings.  We attribute our success to our active adult leadership, "boy-run troop" philosophy with focus on advancement, merit badges and high adventure activities which keeps our scouts very interested and involved.

Please contact our Scoutmaster if you would like to join or find out more about us

With this being an active military base, all adults are required to have a Real ID drivers license or a current US passport.

Troop Committee Meeting - May 5th - Parents Encouraged To Attend

Posted on May 4 2026 - 3:41am

On Tuesday, May 5th, we will have our regular monthly Troop Committee Meeting. We would like to encourage at least one parent for each of our Scouts to attend. There has been a proposal for our Scouts to use a dedicated group communication platform other than just email. We need to know how our Troop parents feel about this and if implemented, what the guidelines should be!

2026 T-Shirt Design

Posted on May 4 2026 - 2:50am

We would like to have one of our Scouts design this year's T-Shirt that we normally debut  for summer camp. The only design criteria that we have is that it must be centered around America's 250th Anniversary theme.  Designs do not have to be camera ready - we can do the final artwork. Mr. Rost would be glad to help any Scout develop their idea into a final design. Designs need to be turned into Mr. Rost by May 5th.

Shoe Collection service project

Posted on May 4 2026 - 2:49am

The Scouts in the Troop have decided to support this charity in collecting shoes. (details below)

Please bring shoes to this coming Tuesday's meeting and we will send them to the Carlson's. If you would rather, you can take them to the address below by May 10 (Sunday). There is a box on the front porch. Shoes can be in any condition. Any size or style of shoe is welcomed.

"Clean out your mud rooms, clean out your closets and sports bags.
Please place used shoes on my front porch by May 10! I will be sure they get to ASK.

My address is:
9932 Puddle Duck Ln."

"The ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation has a high school cancer survivor who is in need of a service dog. The organization that places service dogs collects pairs of shoes to support those in need. If this young girl can collect 3000 pairs of shoes, they will give her a service dog for free. Currently she has 700 pair to donate so she has a ways to go. They will accept any type of shoes including sports cleats, crocks, sandals and sneakers. (really anything)" edited

Fundraiser: Spirit Night at Marty's Grill - April 27, 2026

Posted on Apr 27 2026 - 2:10pm

Marty’s Grill, in Rutland Commons Shopping Center, hosts Spirit Nights to support local non-profit groups as their way of giving back to the community!

On Monday, April 27, 2026, Marty’s Grill in Rutland Commons Shopping Center, will donate a portion of the day’s food sales to Troop 521. This covers Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, Dine-In or Carry-Out, from 7 AM to 10 PM.

It would be great if we could fill Marty’s with Scout families to increase their sales that day! It wouldn’t hurt to wear a Scout t-shirt or mention Scouts to let them know that we appreciate their support. Invite all your friends and neighbors, as well!
