Welcome !

Welcome to our website! Troop 521 meets every Tuesday from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Cool Spring Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

We are a large and very active troop with a variety of activities and scheduled monthly outings.  We attribute our success to our active adult leadership, "boy-run troop" philosophy with focus on advancement, merit badges and high adventure activities which keeps our scouts very interested and involved.

Please contact our Scoutmaster if you would like to join or find out more about us

Fish Camp - This past weekend

Posted on Jun 30 2025 - 12:45am

What a great success we had at fish camp. Most, but not all, of the scouts who fished caught something. The entire Troop was able to have a fish fry off the catching of the day. We caught around 30 bluegill, 7 large mouth bass and one very large crappie. Fish cooked with hush puppies, french fries and some chicken filled everyone. All seemed happy with the event, including the gun club who were looking to thin out the some of the fish in the lake.

For some pictures from the weekend, check out our Facebook group later today.

This Tuesday's meeting at the pavilion

Posted on Jun 23 2025 - 1:19am

This week, Cool Spring Baptist is hosting its annual vacation Bible school. All rooms in the Church will be used for that purpose. The Troop will meet, our normal times, at the new pavilion. Bug spray may be a good idea. Maybe we can even have a fire in the fire pit!

Scouts can now wear Class B uniforms to our meetings for the remainder of the summer. Class B is an appropriate tee shirt with shorts. We prefer a scout t-shirt and scout shorts. We have a nice selection of shorts and shirts in our scout closet if you want to look through them when we get back on July 1st. These uniform pieces are free for those that need them.

Fish Camp - This weekend

Posted on Jun 23 2025 - 1:19am

On Friday we will be headed to the Cavalier Rifle and Pistol Club in Montpelier, VA for Fish Camp. We want to meet at 5:30p (please eat dinner before you come or bring a bag dinner) at the trailers behind the church. We should return Sunday at 12:15pm.

Attending scouts are asked to bring $15 for food to give to the patrol grub master. This way the grub master has the money to go buy the food for his patrol. We are hoping we catch enough fish to do a fish fry on Saturday night. Other menu items have been arranged for those that don't want to eat fish.

More info will be out Tuesday.

Summer Camp Swim Checks - 6/22

Posted on Jun 16 2025 - 1:13am

For all scouts and adults attending summer camp, a pre-check has been scheduled at the Atlee Community Pool on Sunday, 6/22. The official swim check is to jump into water over your head, swim 75 yards using any stroke on your stomach. Then swim 25 yards on your back using the elementary backstroke. Then float o your back for 2 minutes. Passing this test enables you to take part in any water activity.

We will have more information, including meeting time, at Tuesday's meeting. This will give us a lot more time to get camp set up when we arrive at camp on July 6.
